WHO WE ARE AND HOW WE CAME UP
Athena Tech Project
We are a non-profit organization created by 5 young people annoyed by the lack of access to technology and quality education for more than 15 million Brazilian students in public schools, according to the TIC Educação 2019 survey.
In order to act in some way to develop a solid solution to this big problem, we participated in Tilt Camp, an event organized by Ashoka (global leader in social entrepreneurship), where several young people interested in solving social problems came together to devise solution plans, according to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the SDGs.
Our purpose and solution relate to SDGs 4 (Quality Education) and 10 (Reduction of Inequalities).

OUR OPERATION
To solve the problem of inequality in access to technology and education among Brazilian youth, we collect computers donated from people, companies and organizations and we set up spaces in city halls, public schools, libraries, community centers etc. We call these spaces “Learning Pods”, where young people can conduct research, access the internet and communicate when classes are not taking place, as they will be able to use devices such as computers and tablets.
When students return to their pre-COVID routines, which is not likely to happen in Brazil until 2022, our computers will still be available for use by students of all ages. This ensures that everyone has access to technology and the internet, fundamental components of teaching and learning in the 21st century.
Beneficiary students will also be encouraged to assist us with the project progress in any way they can, both with small financial contributions. as an aid in dissemination, enabling development and maintaining our initiative for the long term.
Through our project, we hope to reduce inequality, allowing students from low-income backgrounds to get the most out of technology, thus improving their learning and giving them more opportunities to have a better life in the future through social mobility. (change of social status).
